A Poem: “Tenses”

“But they were happy”

And it was us

And you were you

And I was me

All those words are past tense, you see.

What are we now?

And are we, “we?”

Who are you currently choosing to be?

I know who I am.

Have you forgot?

The past certainly was.

But in the present…

“We” are not.
